✨ Celebrating 20 Beautiful Years – A Look Back at Our Journey

This October, Tomoko Shima Hair Salon proudly celebrates 20 years of beauty, creativity, and heartfelt connections.

🌿 Our Humble Beginnings

In 2005, we opened our very first salon in Uptown Manhattan with a simple mission: to offer thoughtful, high-quality hair care in a warm and welcoming space. What began as a small, intimate salon soon grew into something much more—a community built on trust, artistry, and kindness.

💇‍♀️ Growth, Creativity & Team

In 2007, we celebrated our 2nd anniversary with a live hair and makeup show, where each stylist showcased their unique vision on stage for our beloved clients. That same year, Grace joined our team, bringing her talent and heart to the Uptown salon.

By 2011, we expanded and opened our Downtown location, welcoming incredible new team members including Yukari, Masaki, Mimi, and Mara, Hazuki. In 2024, we were excited to welcome Mig, adding a fresh new energy to our team.

🌀 Navigating Change

Like many small businesses, the pandemic brought challenges we had never faced before. We temporarily closed for three months, and upon reopening, limited our services to one guest at a time with enhanced safety measures. We are proud of how we navigated that time—with resilience, compassion, and the unwavering support of our loyal clients.

It was also during this period that our Head Spa services began to truly flourish, offering clients not only scalp and hair care, but peace and relaxation during difficult times.

✂️ Innovation & Philosophy

Over the years, we’ve embraced Japanese hair techniques such as Step Bone Cut, and have introduced vegan and organic treatments, including our popular Organic Head Spa and Vegan Smoothing services. Our goal has always been to provide services that are not only beautiful, but gentle—on the body, the hair, and the planet.

At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to being eco-friendly, people-friendly, and earth-conscious.
